Information for Trikers in the UK:

This page is to help Trikers with some of the many questions you might have with regards to the law and your trike.
Triking is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, one of the reasons is because you can ride a trike on a UK Car drivers licence, and sadly now it has become very expensive and a lengthy process to obtain a motorbike licence. The trike is the easier option, needing no extra testing before you can get on the road, so this answers our first question:

Can I ride a trike on a Car licence?

The easy answer is YES you can, no extra testing is required before you can ride a trike. As long as you have the catergory B1 on your licence you are legal to ride a trike. If you have a provisional car licence only you will need to display 'L' plates.

Can I ride a trike on a Motorbike licence?

If you do not have a car licence and only a Motorbike licence it does depend on when you passed your test as to whether you will have the class B1 entitlement on your licence. If you have had your motorbike licence for 8 years or more this should be ok, but please check your licence. The year this rule changed was in 2000.
